Aware Defeat Depression
Aware Defeat Depression has been working since 1996 to support all those in Northern Ireland affected by depression.
We also welcome and support carers. We opened our first office in Derry/Londonderry and now have a second office in Duncairn Gardens, Belfast where our helpline is based.
We also have an established network of over twenty support groups in rural and urban areas across the country, which are run by our trained volunteers.
Aware Defeat Depression is the only charity in Northern Ireland which works exclusively for those with depression.
We believe that the people who use our services should have a say in how they are developed and delivered, so we employ people with experience of depression at every level in the organisation, including the Board of Directors.
We rely on our dedicated and caring volunteers who run our support groups and helpline. Many of our volunteers began as service users themselves and as such are an excellent asset to us and keep us informed on staying in touch with people's needs.

GSK Impact Award Winners
Aware Defeat Depression, the only charity working exclusively for those with depression across Northern Ireland, was recognised as one of this years winners of a GSK IMPACT Award. Over four hundred charities nationwide applied for GSKs flagship UK community investment programme. We are one of only ten winners throughout the UK and stood out for our work in helping to increase understanding of how to prevent mental illness and support people with depression in their recovery. Previous winners have access to a unique training and development programme, and join a network of GSK IMPACT Award alumni.
As part of this award, we were delighted to welcome STAMP Productions to Northern Ireland to make a video highlighting our services and the people we currently help. This is the video which was produced for us and we are absolutely delighted with it.
