Universal Credit is a payment for people over 18 but under State Pension age who are on a low income or out of work. Universal Credit will be introduced for new claims on a phased geographical basis across Northern Ireland from September 2017 to September 2018.

Universal Credit will replace:

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit
