AWARE, has announced that the Support Group they host in Newry is now running on a weekly basis.

The Support Group, held in Ballybot House in the Cornmarket area of the City, will now run every Wednesday night at 7:30pm. The charity say that the demand for their support groups throughout Northern Ireland is increasing and they feel that a weekly support group in Newry will give local people quicker access to a vital community service.

Caroline McLoughlin is the Support Services Officer for AWARE and said,

"With more and more people being diagnosed with depression, we believe it is essential that AWARE's services are open and accessible to everyone. We listened to the concerns of our support group users in Newry and opened up the group weekly.

"The group is free to attend and no appointment is necessary so just turn up on the night and a trained support group facilitator will welcome you in with a cup of tea or coffee.

Support Group co-facilitator for the Newry group Lee Havern said,

"Coming to an AWARE Support Group will give you a safe space to discuss the illness and learn from other people how they were able to cope with and recover from depression.

"If you are suffering from depression, please come along and try the group. You don't have to be alone with this illness when there is support here for you."
