Elizabeth Millar, a local lady from Glencairn has raised over £2000 for regional mental health charity AWARE, by hosting her own Masquerade Night to raise much needed funds and awareness for those affected by the illness of depression. AWARE is the only mental health charity in Northern Ireland working exclusively for those with depression and bipolar disorder.

Elizabeth was so warmed by the amount of support she received from businesses on the Shankill Road and wanted to thank the staff of Mountainview Tavern, Wrights Barbers, Essential Hair Christine, Linda’s Kitchen, Home Hair, SignTec, Jimmy’s, Bellaire Hair and Beauty, Hard Hat Catering and to all those who donated prizes for the auction and to every single person who came along to the fundraiser.

Colleen Milligan is the Corporate Fundraiser for AWARE and has said that the charity is delighted with how successful Elizabeth’s masquerade ball was. Colleen said,

“AWARE is a charity and we rely on the funds and donations made from people in the community. Elizabeth is a community champion and by taking on the challenge of organising a fundraising event like hers, she is making a big difference in raising awareness of depression.

"The money raised will go directly into our support services which help people suffering from depression and provide support to the family and carers of people with depression and bipolar disorder.”
