The annual Petermarkathon fundraiser, an initiative organised by Peter Mark Hair to support local charities took place in Peter Mark Salons throughout Northern Ireland. This year the Peter Mark team chose to support AWARE to raise much needed funds for the charity and specifically its work supporting and educating teenagers about looking after their mental health through their Mood Matters programme.

AWARE is the only charity in Northern Ireland that works to exclusively support those affected by depression and bipolar disorder.  Mood Matters is a programme delivered by AWARE which is offered to the 14 – 18 year age group in post primary schools throughout Northern Ireland.  The objective is to destigmatise mental ill-health and provide young people with the skills to look after their mental health and build resilience in order to deal with challenges in their lives.  Currently, AWARE is only funded to deliver this vital programme to one quarter of post primary schools throughout NI.

Staff in Peter Mark Salons throughout Northern Ireland enthusiastically threw themselves into fundraising for AWARE- Mrs Browns Boys dress up, Quiz Show Morning and full on dance routines helped to raise a fantastic £5000 for the charity.   Every penny raised by Peter Mark staff will go to AWARE to deliver the Mood Matters Programme to young people across Northern Ireland.

Speaking about the initiative, Peter O’Rourke, CEO, Peter Mark said,

“At a time when depression and mental health issues have never been more prevalent, it is so important to help an organisation like AWARE deliver a public service like Mood Matters!”

Teresa Sloan, of AWARE said,

“It’s great to have such a well-known brand on board with us. The Mood Matters programme is so well received in schools and the more teenagers we can reach, the better. Helping young people at this stage in life can also have a positive impact for the wider family and community. We’re delighted to be involved with Peter Mark and say a massive thank you to their team and their clients.”
