Monday 15th June marks the beginning of Men’s Health Week! Team AWARE in collaboration with our friends at Place Proud, will be using this opportunity to shine a light on men’s mental health issues. Keep an eye on our social media channels throughout the week, as we share stories from men of all ages and walks of life who have come together to stand up for men’s mental health in Northern Ireland!
There’s a stigma surrounding mental health in Northern Ireland, with a mounting pressure on men to ‘Man Up’. Men are less likely to open up to their family and friends about their struggles with mental health, which can have worrying consequences. In fact, suicide is the leading killer of men under 50 in Northern Ireland and 1 in 3 men have experienced suicidal thoughts as a result of feeling stressed.
This week, we are encouraging men to look out for each other, raise awareness, and #StandUpForMen.

“Challenge Accepted 💪...
It's time to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health which prevents us men seeking help when we need it most. Instead of reaching out, we tend to bottle up our feelings, thinking we are “tough” enough to handle it alone.
I think it’s time for a change...It’s time to Stand up for Men’s Mental Health.
1 in 3 men in the UK have experienced suicidal thoughts as a result of feeling stressed, so today I am checking in on 3 of my male friends, donating £3 to AWARE the depression charity in Northern Ireland, and tagging 3 friends to do the same.
