Bell Contracts Return as Headline Sponsor of AWARE NI’s Giant Steps Walk as Event Marks Fifth Year
AWARE NI has announced the return of Giant Steps, its flagship fundraising walk, with Bell Contracts confirmed as headline sponsor for the second year running. The event takes place along the stunning Causeway Coast on Saturday, 6 June, and is open to walkers aged 14 and over, of all abilities.
Now in its fifth year, Giant Steps has raised over £200,000 to date, helping to sustain vital mental health services across Northern Ireland. Participants can choose from 7, 13, or 20-mile routes, making the event accessible to individuals, groups, and workplace teams while raising awareness of mental health and challenging stigma.
Funds raised through Giant Steps are essential to keeping AWARE NI’s services running. The charity’s network of peer-led Support Groups is frequently described by service users as a lifeline, offering safe, supportive spaces for people experiencing depression, anxiety, and bipolar across Northern Ireland.
With budgets under increasing pressure and mental ill-health continuing to rise in communities, demand for these services has never been greater. Latest figures show that 290 people died by suicide in 2024, underlining the urgent need for accessible support and early intervention.
Bell Contracts Social Value Manager Barry Potter said the company was proud to continue its support of the event: “We’re delighted to return as headline sponsor of Giant Steps for a second year. We absolutely loved being part of this positive and energising event last year, so it was an easy decision to come on board again. Mental health affects every community, and supporting AWARE NI helps ensure people can access support when they need it most. This event brings together impact, community, and one of Northern Ireland’s most incredible landscapes.”
Bridie Kelly, Community and Events Officer at AWARE NI, highlighted the importance of the partnership and the event: “Giant Steps is our flagship fundraising event, and having Bell Contracts return as headline sponsor is hugely significant. Their continued support helps us keep our services running and ensures people don’t have to face mental ill-health alone. We’d love to see as many people as possible get involved this year - with routes to suit all abilities, every participant helps strengthen mental health support across Northern Ireland.”
Registration is now open, and anyone aged 14 and over is welcome to take part, whether as an experienced walker or someone simply looking for a meaningful challenge. Participants are encouraged to raise £100 in sponsorship, directly supporting AWARE NI’s life-saving work.
