Understanding Menopause and Mental Health: Your Insights Matter
As part of the Mental Health All Party Group within the Assembly, we are excited to announce the launch of new research aimed at improving understanding and support for individuals experiencing menopause and its impact on mental health.
Why This Research Matters
Menopause can significantly affect mental wellbeing, and it is our goal to understand these impacts better. Changes to women's moods, emotions and state of mind during perimenopause and menopause are common - it is often the primary reason menopausal women first go to see their doctor or nurse (The Menopause Charity, 2024).
Through this research, we hope to identify the need for services, support, and advocacy efforts that can make a real difference in the lives of those affected. But we can't do it without your help. We are conducting a short survey to gather insights from individuals who have experienced menopause; your participation would be greatly appreciated. The survey takes just 5 minutes to complete, and your responses will help shape future efforts to engage with the Department of Health, improve awareness, reduce stigma, and push for better resources for those affected.
How You Can Help
Your input will be crucial to this research, and we would also love for you to share the survey with your networks on social media or via email. The more insights we gather, the stronger our advocacy will be.

Other Resources
AWARE NI has created a new mental health resource with our 'Let's Talk About Mental Health & Menopause' factsheet. It is full of information about the symptoms of menopause, potential additional support from your GP, what can help with symptoms of menopause and, of course, how you can help protect your mental health.
